“BEAT THE NEET”

Dear DAMSONIANS

"According to Deccan Herald and various news papers in July end 2011, there would now be a common entrance test for admission to undergraduate, post-graduate and super-speciality courses to any medical college in the country. The Supreme Court gave its nod for a single eligibility-cum-entrance test for MBBS, post-graduate and super-speciality courses. A bench of Justices R V Raveendran and A K Patnaik disposed a bunch of petitions after the Medical Council of India (MCI)—statutory body to regulate medical education in the country—informed that all necessary rules have been put in place in this regard. The new examination would be called National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate, post-graduate and super-speciality courses. Additional Solicitor General, Amrendra Sharan told the Court that NEET for undergraduates would be held in April/ May 2012 for the academic session 2012-13 while the modalities were being worked out for common entrance test -NEET-PG examinations are scheduled for January 2012. The core syllabus, the pattern of papers of different subjects for NEET-UG would be made available on the MCI’s website by August 2012 for feedback. The modalities to hold common test for super speciality courses were being worked out. This should be available by August end on MCI website.

According to MCI website at -8th August

NEET-PG: The common entrance test (CET) for admission to Medical Post-graduate Courses across the country i.e. National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Medical Postgraduate Courses - MD/MS/Diploma (NEET-PG ) shall be held in Jan-Feb 2012 for admissions in the academic year 2012-2013. The syllabus is that of MBBS described in the MCI Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997. The multiple choice questions (MCQs) would be based on the MBBS syllabus as well as the knowledge that needs to be acquired during internship which is also described in the said Regulations. The distribution of questions, model questions and method of tie breaking for ranking would be placed on the website in the due course.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Although these statements suggest likelihood of CET in 2012, still if there is going to be significant change in the pattern of questions is unclear. Plus point is AIIMS is the body which will make the exam as has always been the case so question pattern shouldn’t change drastically.

However, DAMS is well prepared to meet any changes if suggested in the pattern of the examination and we are already scheduling mock tests on previously suggested pattern of 180 questions. So soon in addition to your GT you will have these papers as well. Also, we are closely watching out for the final pattern announcement so that our students are as always on an advantage in this exam. We also emphasize all through the year we have working on our material so that students have that extra edge and we again ensure the students that whatever, may be the course pattern AN OBJECTIVE QUESTION IS AN OBJECTIVE QUESTION, our teachers were always clinically oriented, we always make sure that you know how to answer a true-false question or a fill in the blank. And above all paper will be set up by AIIMS most likely so we dont foresee any drastic change in the character of questions. So watch out for our series of mock tests on this proposed pattern as well as the final pattern which will be announced by MCI website by August end.

We request our students to not panic on random updates on internet. MCI has now uploaded a page on their website on NEET. I think they should update it soon (till end of august) with details on syllabus and pattern. Request to students to check this link for updates, not random sources on the internet. This is the official link.

Our team at DAMS understands your concern and we know you are afraid to land up first in a new pattern, but we assure you from DAMS that we are on job to give you ample practise on any new pattern if any arises. You can leave this part of the worry to us and keep studying towards GLORY.

Best wishes
