He secured 60th Rank IN AIIMS NOV’13 Exam....
DAMS: How did your parents, family and friends contribute to your success?
Dr. My parents helped me alot throughout the process and my close friends support and guided me alot.
DAMS: Who influenced you to take up Medicine?
Dr. My biggest influence has already been my “Father”.
DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr. I had some doubts, i always secured close to rank 200 in AIIMS & PGI last couple of years, Sumer Sir guided me alot throughout the process.
DAMS: Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr. I did reading mostly based on class notes, i did most of the standard theory books during MBBS including Robbins, Selective topics of CNS& Endocrine from harrisons.
DAMS : Which books did you read for MCQ revision? Which revision books were the most productive and which were least?
Dr. I did all the questions provided in the modules, apart from that i made an effort to go through major books like Ashish for AIIMS & Mudit Khanna for AIPG and individual guides.
DAMS : How important you think was DAMS in your preparation ?
Dr. DAMS gave me the final push to secure a good rank , the teachers specially Dr. Tiwari(surgery), Dr.Pooja (Biochemistry), Dr. Harmeet Goel (obs & gyne) and Dr. Pankaj (PSM) helped us alot..
DAMS: What do you think is the better way of preparation between selective, intensive study and wide, extensive study? What did you choose as your style of studying?
Dr. AIIMS has always been about having extensive knowledge about a few selective topics combined basics from MBBS and Keeping up with the classes at DAMS.
DAMS: Indian PG entrances are highly competitive so to compete them students end up in appearing in multiple PG exams , kindly extend your views on this and also their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances .
Dr.A single exam should be the way to move ahead .I still prefer the old ways of taking exam with a pen and a paper, multiple sessions and all the implications are too much to handle.
DAMS: Which subjects did you focus on?
Dr. I focused on 2nd prof. Subjects especially PATHOLOGY & PHARMA, 3rd prof. Subjects like SPM ,OPTHAL. & short subjects- SKIN, ANESTHESIA, RADIOLOGY & PSYCHIATRY.
DAMS: What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?
Dr. I tried to stay focused and didn’t haphazard anything before exam, i attempted 185 questions because this AIIMS paper had MAY repeats with some analytical questions.
DAMS: Which teachers in DAMS influenced you most and what do you like about DAMS and would recommend to your juniors?
Dr. All the teachers specially specially Dr. Tiwari(surgery), Dr.Pooja (Biochemistry), Dr. Harmeet Goel (obs & gyne) and Dr. Pankaj (PSM) has guided us alot , the faculty and staff at DAMS lucknow helped us in every possible way. I would enlargely recommend DAMS to all my juniors who are preparing for AIIMS & PGI.
