Interview with our topper Dr. Hitesh Choudhary
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary did his MBBS from MAMC, Delhi
and joined DAMS Foundation + Test & Discussion Course Regd no DL04924
He secured Rank 1 IN PGI DEC 2012 Exam
DAMS: Congratulations on securing a  good  ranks. What is the secret of your success in this exam?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
The secret of my success is my hardwork, parent support & the luck factor, But I think studying regularly throughout the year is the most important thing.
DAMS: How did your parents, family and friends contribute to your success?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
My family & my friend were very helpful & always supported me. Whenever I was slightly depresses or thought that how would I get over this? They were always there to encourage me.
DAMS: Who influenced you to take up Medicine?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
My parents.
DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
Yes there were many occasions when I thought that I would I do this & that I would not be able to succeed. But I always tried to get over that phase & focus on the goal.
DAMS:  Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
The volumes i.e. AA+MK are very important for the theory part. As such the subject theory books are not so important except for as a references books for some topics which you find difficult.
DAMS: Which books did you read for MCQ revision? Which revision books were the most productive and which were least?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
5 volumes for all subjects’ specific subject wise books for Biochem, Pharma, Micro, PSM & the short subjects are important. Doing subject wise books for Anatomy, Physio, Patho, ENT & the 4 subjects of final year are not so productive & should be done once you have completed the other things.

DAMS: How important you think was DAMS in your preparation?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
DAMS has been very important for my studies. I joined T & D batch & notes of these classes formed the base of my studies. The large no of topics are covered in these classes are the most important & gives you whole overview of what you have to study. Once you are through with these notes, it becomes very easy to complete the rest of the course.
DAMS: What do you think is the better way of preparation between selective, intensive study and wide, extensive study? What did you choose as your style of studying?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
It should be a mixture of these. For the topics which are asked repeatedly in the exams it should be an intensive study knowing everything about it, but other topics, it should be a wide study so as to cover the maximum no of topics as it’s not possible to complete the whole course.
DAMS: Indian PG entrances are highly competitive so to compete them students end up in appearing in multiple PG exams , kindly extend your views on this and also their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances .
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
It is good in a sense that gives an opportunity to the students that even if one day is bad for a student. He can do well in the other 2 or 3 but if there is only 1 exam everything depends on that particular day & if that is an off day for you, everything is gone.
DAMS: Which subjects did you focus on?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
Important subjects to focus on are Pharma, Patho, Micro, PSM & the 5 short subjects. The 3 1st yr subjects i.e. Anatomy, Physio, Biochem are mugging up so should be done at the end. FMT & ENT, Opthal are scoring subjects where if you read the basics you can get maximum questions correct in the exam.
DAMS: What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
In PGI, it’s very important to be aware of the time, as it has 1250 options where we have say True or False in 3 hrs, so speed is most important. It’s essential to read & mark all 250 ques in 3 hrs; otherwise questions will be left unanswered at the end. It is also important not to have any question to see attend & should mark it true & then only. I marked 550-600 options when I think is essential to get a good rank unless if you are marking 450 to 500 options & you are confident that most of these are correct.
DAMS: What do you want to specialize in, why and where?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
I want to do MD Radio diagnosis from PGI Chandigarh or AIIMS.

DAMS: Which teachers in DAMS influenced you most and what do you like about DAMS and would recommend to your juniors?
Dr. Hitesh Choudhary:
The teachers of Anatomy, Pharma, Micro, Surgery, Medicine & Dr.Sumer Sethi (Radio) are excellent.
DAMS is an excellent institute to join if you want to clear any PG exam because it gives you an excellent platform & huge amount of knowledge though its classes on which you can build up & get a good rank in the exams.
