Interview with our topper Dr.Ameena Meah

Interview with our topper Dr.Ameena Meah

Dr Ameena Meah did her MBBS from A.J Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore and joined DAMS, Bangalore Regd no 11340

She secured Rank 59 IN JIPMER Exam

DAMS: Congratulations on securing a good rank. What is the secret of your success in this exam?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
Thank you:) NO PAIN NO GAIN! Its sheer Hardwork and immense faith in GOD.

DAMS: How did your parents, family and friends contribute to your success?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
Parents are pillars of strength- working silently. Be it providing all needs or tolerating tantrums. ALWAYS indebted to my seniors and professors for their encouragement and my friends for supporting me through this critical yr.

DAMS: Who influenced you to take up Medicine?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
It was my childhood dream. Was encouraged immensely by my science teachers Mrs.Issac and Mrs. Nirmala

DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
At the end of the day we are all humans!!! Doubts creep in only to be silenced by consistent hardwork, an undying passion to serve, improving ranks in grand tests , an assurance by my mother and my strongest anchor- my best friend.

DAMS: Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
I did not get time to read all texts. During UG days i had read them well. Read a few topics from Sumer sethi s radio, Sumit seth s Forensic medicine, Gobind Garg’s pharmac and the most important ROBBINS- esp for hematology!!

DAMS: Which books did you read for MCQ revision? Which revision books were the most productive and which were least?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
I believe if one masters 8-10 yrs of previous MK and AA then half the battle is won. RACHNA CHAURASIA-micro, GOBIND GARG - pharmac, ARVIND ARORA-patho are others. I heard from my seniors that ACROSS is not too beneficial so i refrained from reading it.

DAMS: How important you think was DAMS in your preparation ?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
It was the first yr of DAMS in Bangalore, on the recommendation of a friend i joined DAMS. It was a risk i took, but now thinking of it –its one of the best decisions i made!

Weekend classes gave sufficient time to study.

GRAND TESTS of DAMS are definitely tough and challenging but it gives us a chance to assess our performance month after month and improve and this slowly builds great confidence.

The DAMS FACEBOOK club is one of the most innovative and helpful measures taken to connect all students of DAMS. Coz now Teachers are just a click away!!!!

DAMS: What do you think is the better way of preparation between selective, intensive study and wide, extensive study? What did you choose as your style of studying?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
Looking at this years AIPGEE, i think one has to strike a balance between subject-wise and paper wise preparation to excel.

Repeated topics have to be mastered.

Though i started in march i think its barely enough time! MK and AA have to be started early. I did weekly preparation of the subjects that were being taught. Class notes are invaluable!!!! Repeated RE-vision of them give an edge when questions are asked outside MK and AA.

One of the things that guarentees a better shot at exams is SPEED!!!!!! And for this DAMS was very imp!

DAMS: Indian PG entrances are highly competitive so to compete them students end up in appearing in multiple PG exams , kindly extend your views on this and also their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances .
Dr.Ameena Meah
: I am - FOR multiple exams. Some days are good ; some bad! A single exam can make or break one s shot at achieving their dream which i think is too much of a risk! Multiple exams help one build confidence and who knows when LUCK STRIKES!:) I hope in the near future ONLY MERIT will be given importance to!!!!

DAMS: Which subjects did you focus on?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
I followed DAMS schedule and was able to cover at least 75% of all subjects. Short subjects are very rewarding. PHARMAC, MICRO and PATHO are important too. BIOCHEM is a task! But our ma’am did a great job.

DAMS: What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
Its difficult to keep cool but its imp! Stress can ruin a yr s preparation. I attempted 248/250 for JIPMER.

DAMS: What do you want to specialize in, why and where?
Dr.Ameena Meah:
GENERAL MEDICINE -

DAMS: Which teachers in DAMS influenced you most and what do you like about DAMS and would recommend to your juniors?
Dr.Ameena Meah: Almost all TEACHERS were good, but special mention must be made of DR. SIDDHARTH, DR RAJEEV(ENT), DR TIWARI, DR SANTHOSH MALI, DR PARTHO, DR DEVESH MISHRA and SUMER SETHI.

I would definitely recommend DAMS to my juniors! The info provided here is reliable, they are approachable and good amount of mock tests are provided to keep one going.

AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT’ S ONE’S OWN HARWORK AND PASSION THAT MAKES A DREAM COME TRUE, BUT ONE NEED’ S A SUFFICIENT SUPPORT AS WELL…..AND THAT’S WHERE DAMS COMES IN !

ALL THE BEST

THANK YOU:)

GOD BLESS

DAMS: Congratulations on securing a good ranks. What is the secret of your success in this exam?

DAMS: Who influenced you to take up Medicine?
Dr.Sanjana H S : No one in particular. I always wanted to be a doctor.

DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr.Sanjana H S : Yes everyday! I was infact ready to join the next year’s coaching session after some of my exams went bad!!

DAMS: Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr.Sanjana H S : Didnt read any theory during internship .Only in MBBS days..chaurasia(anat),guyton(physio),Davidson(med),OP Ghai(peds) the usual.

DAMS : Which books did you read for MCQ revision? Which revision books were the most productive and which were least?
Dr.Sanjana H S : Gobind garg (pharma), Arvind arora (micro), arvind arora (patho), Mudit khanna (med), AAA(surg), Vivek jain (PSM).These were all very useful books.

DAMS : How important you think was DAMS in your preparation ?

DAMS: What do you think is the better way of preparation between selective, intensive study and wide, extensive study? What did you choose as your style of studying?
Dr.Sanjana H S : I had no time to do extensive studying during internship while preparing for competitive exams. Its better to be selective and intensive the year you’re preparing to give the exams as the course is so vast and easy to get lost. In MBBS days i’d love to do wide varied reading!

DAMS: Indian PG entrances are highly competitive so to compete them students end up in appearing in multiple PG exams , kindly extend your views on this and also their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances .
Dr.Sanjana H S : Multiple pg exams are better than a single common entrance. Its that many chances you get to get somewhere. I didn’t do so many exams well at all!

DAMS: Which subjects did you focus on?
Dr.Sanjana H S : Micro pharmac SPM patho I didn’t get time to do all subjects completely but these 4 are very scoring I guess.

DAMS: What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?
Dr.Sanjana H S : No particular strategy. But try to attempt as far as possible because even if you get negative marks in some the positive ones more than cover up for it. I attempted 244/250 in jipmer.

Dr.Sanjana H S : I love paediatrics. I’d like to do it from any good college where i finally join!

Interview with our topper Dr. Ketaki V Gharpure

Interview with our topper Dr. Ketaki V Gharpure

Dr Ketaki V Gharpure did her MBBS from GMC Nagpur and joined

DAMS Pune Regd no 4518

She secured Rank 55 IN DNB Exam

DAMS: Congratulations on securing a good rank. What is the secret of your success in this exam?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
There is no secret. It’s just a product of hard-work and maintaining focus!

DAMS: How did your parents, family and friends contribute to your success?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
My parents, family and friends have always been very supportive and tremendously helpful throughout my graduation and my studies for all post graduation entrances. In spite of all the stress and pressure of taking a sabbatical to study for exams and the late nights and my erratic study patterns, they have always stood by me in all decisions I have made regarding the same.

DAMS: Who influenced you to take up Medicine?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
Being exposed to medical sciences even as a child, with both my parents being doctors, my interest and inclination were obviously drawn to this noble profession. Also, being an avid reader, i read ‘The cry and the covenant’- the life story of Ignaz Semmelweiss and realized that a small action can make such a huge difference for humanity. I also consider ‘The brothers Mayo’ a biography of the famous Drs Mayo as a major influence on my decision!

DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
All challenges have to be looked at in a confident manner, but one must be prepared with contingency plans and second options. Similarly, I never doubted my abilities towards giving my best shot at all exams that I gave, but always maintained a rational outlook and had my plan Bs open. My support system, i.e. my family, friends and teachers always only encouraged me to do well in spite of all self doubt.

DAMS: Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure
: There is no better preparation than one’s undergraduate studies, if done properly. Some of the books I religiously read were, Love Bailey, Harrison, Robbins, Park and of course Gray’s Anatomy.

DAMS : Which books did you read for MCQ revision? Which revision books were the most productive and which were least?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
Volumes of previous ten years papers are a must. Amit ashish for surgery, mudit khanna for medicine and garg for pharmac are very good. I mostly revised with my class notes and any standard MCQ book. Discussions with fellow students are also a useful tool for revisions!

DAMS : How important you think was DAMS in your preparation ?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
DAMS has an excellent tutor base .the faculty is very approachable and the class notes are detailed and cover most topics. DAMS helped me tremendously to realise my weak spots and work on them. Each grand test was like a test run for the real exam!

DAMS: What do you think is the better way of preparation between selective, intensive study and wide, extensive study? What did you choose as your style of studying?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
What is obviously most helpful is wide yet intensive study, which is difficult and might seem impossible but with a good under graduate study base one can get a good amount of studies done with wide, extensive study. One need not know everything about every subject but should be well aware of all the relevant things to study.

DAMS: Indian PG entrances are highly competitive so to compete them students end up in appearing in multiple PG exams , kindly extend your views on this and also their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances .
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
Since PG entrances are highly competitive, appearing in multiple exams gives aspirants a chance to make up for mistakes they may make in one or two exams and perform better in the others, one never knows when one might have a bad day. It is always a safe bet to give multiple exams, though how many, is an important question. One cannot possibly attempt to give all PG entrances. That will not only be mentally and physically very taxing, but also lowers ones morale.

Pros are that basically you get more than one chance of proving yourself and even if you are confident of scoring well in any one exam, the rest can be kept as back up.

Cons are that it may be very taxing and one may end up wasting too much time travelling to exam centres outside your city.

DAMS: Which subjects did you focus on?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
Where competitive exams are concerned, one cannot really afford to ignore any subject. Of course there are some subjects like Medicine and surgery which need a lot of studying. They cover a huge chunk of almost every exam. Apart from those i focussed on the short subjects, as some of them really don’t get read that much in under-grad and need extra attention.

DAMS: What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
An extremely important factor is being calm and patient and well rested. One may not remember some things at the centre, but getting excited and agitated about it is never going to help. One has to attempt questions with a calm mind and rationally, keeping in mind the marking scheme and negative marks etc. Since this was DNB, i attempted all 360 questions.

DAMS: What do you want to specialize in, why and where?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
My dream has always been of pursuing general surgery!

DAMS: Which teachers in DAMS influenced you most and what do you like about DAMS and would recommend to your juniors?
Dr.Ketaki V Gharpure :
All of DAMS faculty is from an illustrious background and very well read with respect to their subjects. What I really like about DAMS is their exam based teaching and study structure.

Dr. Sumer’s lecture was an eye-opener. An inspiring day, that enabled me to outline my year of study. Dr. Siddharth, Dr Varun Gupta, Dr Bhardwaj, Dr Rajiv Tiwari, Dr Bhojani, Dr Chowdhry and Dr Rai in particular were very encouraging! J

The faculty is doing a wonderful job of giving the students a good running start to each subject! For which i m greatly thankful to them!

I was the first medico in my family, so it was my decision to take up medicine but my parents were always by my side.

DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr.Anupam Das:
Yes, combating 19 subjects in such a short period of time is definitely a tough job and quite often I used to succumb to pressure but thanks to the really helpful DAMS tests which helped me monitor my progress and the loopholes.

DAMS: Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr.Anupam Das:
In the last year, its quite difficult to read theory books but I managed to read Sumer Sir’s review of radiology, ajay yadav’s anesthesia and a few topics from Harrison
