Interview with our topper Dr. Abhishek Suman

Interview with our topper Dr. Abhishek Suman
Dr. Abhishek Suman did his MBBS from UCMS and joined DAMS
He secured Rank 4 IN AIR NEET PG 2012 & 1 IN DELHI PG 2013 Exam
DAMS: Congratulations on securing a good ranks. What is the secret of your success in this exam?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
I won’t call it any secret. The strategy that I feel paid off for me was to keep my study material to a minimum (one source for one subject... be it a guide book or the institute notes)..and focusing on the pre and para-clinical subjects in depth.
DAMS: How did your parents, family and friends contribute to your success?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
I always had this one feeling about performing for my parents and friends and that always kept me exerting a little extra. Thanks to my family and friends for all the success that has come my way.
DAMS: Who influenced you to take up Medicine?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
Seriously speaking in retrospect ..taking up medicine was not a very well thought decision, but at a subconscious level probably my father was the big influence for picking up the medical field.
DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
thankfully I never experienced this negative feeling ever.
DAMS:  Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
across for anatomy, physiology…high yield neuroanatomy…. across for forensic… DAMS notes for short subject.
DAMS : Which books did you read for MCQ revision? Which revision books were the most productive and which were least?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
as I mentioned above I used the aa books mostly with across for some subjects...apart from that the various books providing last 5 year DNB questions were my best helps in the last month and they got me atleast 20-30 extra questions in the exam.

DAMS : How important you think was DAMS in your preparation ?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
the most impressive feature of DAMS programme was the simulation neet pattern tests….they were extremely helpful to me for giving me the confidence that I needed and the actual neet exam felt no different than the NLT tests of DAMS. The questions in NLT were apt to gauge my preperation.
DAMS: What do you think is the better way of preparation between selective, intensive study and wide, extensive study? What did you choose as your style of studying?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
I had a pretty strong base of all subjects from my mbbs days so I went straight to the aa guidebooks for theory revision of mbbs days as well as mcqs…I choose to do intensive study for the pre and para clinical subjects and a comprehensive light study for the final year subjects..for short subjects I choose to do as many as possible previous year questions.
DAMS: Indian PG entrances are highly competitive so to compete them students end up in appearing in multiple PG exams , kindly extend your views on this and also their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances .
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
I think one should appear for all the exams be it AIIMS, PGI or NEET. I have experienced that the theory base needed for all 3 are similar ..only slight modification in doing the last year questions of the specific exam is required..
DAMS: Which subjects did you focus on?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, psm, obs and gynae, surgery, biochemistry.
DAMS: What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
as there was no negative marking so there was no question of leaving any questions..apart from that have a good night sleep as everybody says…I don’t study on the exam day..thats the way it has always worked for me.
DAMS: What do you want to specialize in, why and where?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
I have yet not decided on that.
DAMS: Which teachers in DAMS influenced you most and what do you like about DAMS and would recommend to your juniors?
Dr. Abhishek Suman:
