Interview with our topper Dr.Ameena Meah

She secured Rank 59 IN JIPMER Exam

DAMS: Congratulations on securing a good rank. What is the secret of your success in this exam?
Dr.Ameena Meah: Thank you:) NO PAIN NO GAIN! Its sheer Hardwork and immense faith in GOD.

DAMS: How did your parents, family and friends contribute to your success?
Dr.Ameena Meah: Parents are pillars of strength- working silently. Be it providing all needs or tolerating tantrums. ALWAYS indebted to my seniors and professors for their encouragement and my friends for supporting me through this critical yr.

DAMS: Who influenced you to take up Medicine?
Dr.Ameena Meah: It was my childhood dream. Was encouraged immensely by my science teachers Mrs.Issac and Mrs. Nirmala

DAMS: We appreciate the fact that preparing for an extremely competitive exam must be really challenging. During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Dr.Ameena Meah: At the end of the day we are all humans!!! Doubts creep in only to be silenced by consistent hardwork, an undying passion to serve, improving ranks in grand tests , an assurance by my mother and my strongest anchor- my best friend.

DAMS: Which books did you read for the theory part?
Dr.Ameena Meah: I did not get time to read all texts. During UG days i had read them well. Read a few topics from Sumer sethi s radio, Sumit seth s Forensic medicine, Gobind Garg’s pharmac and the most important ROBBINS- esp for hematology!!

DAMS: Which books did you read for MCQ revision? Which revision books were the most productive and which were least?
Dr.Ameena Meah: I believe if one masters 8-10 yrs of previous MK and AA then half the battle is won. RACHNA CHAURASIA-micro, GOBIND GARG - pharmac, ARVIND ARORA-patho are others. I heard from my seniors that ACROSS is not too beneficial so i refrained from reading it.

DAMS: How important you think was DAMS in your preparation ?
Dr.Ameena Meah: It was the first yr of DAMS in Bangalore, on the recommendation of a friend i joined DAMS. It was a risk i took, but now thinking of it –its one of the best decisions i made!

Weekend classes gave sufficient time to study.

GRAND TESTS of DAMS are definitely tough and challenging but it gives us a chance to assess our performance month after month and improve and this slowly builds great confidence.

DAMS: What do you think is the better way of preparation between selective, intensive study and wide, extensive study? What did you choose as your style of studying?
Dr.Ameena Meah: Looking at this years AIPGEE, i think one has to strike a balance between subject-wise and paper wise preparation to excel.

Repeated topics have to be mastered.

Though i started in march i think its barely enough time! MK and AA have to be started early. I did weekly preparation of the subjects that were being taught. Class notes are invaluable!!!! Repeated RE-vision of them give an edge when questions are asked outside MK and AA.

One of the things that guarentees a better shot at exams is SPEED!!!!!! And for this DAMS was very imp!

DAMS: Indian PG entrances are highly competitive so to compete them students end up in appearing in multiple PG exams , kindly extend your views on this and also their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances .
Dr.Ameena Meah: I am - FOR multiple exams. Some days are good ; some bad! A single exam can make or break one s shot at achieving their dream which i think is too much of a risk! Multiple exams help one build confidence and who knows when LUCK STRIKES!:) I hope in the near future ONLY MERIT will be given importance to!!!!

DAMS: Which subjects did you focus on?
Dr.Ameena Meah: I followed DAMS schedule and was able to cover at least 75% of all subjects. Short subjects are very rewarding. PHARMAC, MICRO and PATHO are important too. BIOCHEM is a task! But our ma’am did a great job.

DAMS: What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?
Dr.Ameena Meah: Its difficult to keep cool but its imp! Stress can ruin a yr s preparation. I attempted 248/250 for JIPMER.

DAMS: What do you want to specialize in, why and where?
Dr.Ameena Meah: GENERAL MEDICINE -

DAMS: Which teachers in DAMS influenced you most and what do you like about DAMS and would recommend to your juniors?
Dr.Ameena Meah: Almost all TEACHERS were good, but special mention must be made of DR. SIDDHARTH, DR RAJEEV(ENT), DR TIWARI, DR SANTHOSH MALI, DR PARTHO, DR DEVESH MISHRA and SUMER SETHI.

I would definitely recommend DAMS to my juniors! The info provided here is reliable, they are approachable and good amount of mock tests are provided to keep one going.

AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT’ S ONE’S OWN HARWORK AND PASSION THAT MAKES A DREAM COME TRUE, BUT ONE NEED’ S A SUFFICIENT SUPPORT AS WELL…..AND THAT’S WHERE DAMS COMES IN !
